'Pairing Picture Books and Apps for Contextualized Language-Based Instruction'

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Planning learning activities that are engaging and relevant to classroom content can be difficult and time consuming! Two tools can come to the rescue of teachers and special educators: picture books and interactive apps. Picture books have a long history of support as a literacy tool and continue to engage students across the grade levels. Interventions and lessons can include fun, humorous picture books that include relevant classroom or social contexts, discourse structures and critical sentence structures and vocabulary. The broad world of apps, on the other hand, can be viewed through the lens of potential contextual pairings and features that align with language and literacy development. This presentation will present exemplar pairings of books and apps for instruction as well as strategies to generalize within your own book and app library.
